about

Pergolaccio is a stone farmhouse located just ten minutes outside of Todi, in Umbria. We are 25 minutes away from Orvieto (where you can take a 1 1/2 hour train to Florence or Rome from the station) and 40 minutes to Perugia. We are 30 minutes from Deruta where you can buy hand made ceramics (See my book, Deruta: A Tradition of Italian Ceramics , Chronicle). Other towns nearby: Assisi, Spoleto, Spello.

Pergolaccio is situated on three acres of olive groves atop a hill over looking breathtaking views of the unspoiled Umbrian countryside and farmland. The area immediately surrounding the house is planted with an herb garden, flowering bushes and vines and over 50 varieties of antique roses. There is a shady pergola where you can dine outside, a wood burning barbecue and pizza oven and a vegetable and cutting garden bordered by a grape arbor and fruit orchard. The swimming pool is nearby, but not visible from the house. The pool is located on the old threshing ground and takes in magnificent views out over the valley.

The front door, reached from an allee of mulberry trees, opens into the dining room, the walls of which are made of stone. The living room, which is reached by going up two steps, is cozy and comfortable and contains a t.v. and dvd player. A bathroom, complete with shower, opens off this room.

Returning to the Dining Room, a doorway opens into the breakfast room and kitchen. This is the room where we spend most of our time. The kitchen area centers around a central island and opens onto the eating area with a large pine topped table. A comfortable armchair flanks the fireplace.

The entire ground level is paved in hand made terra cotta tiles. Also on the ground level are a pantry and laundry room. A curving flight of stairs leads from the dining room to the 2nd level. This floor is paved in cypress wood. The master suite incorporates a sitting area with fireplace, private terrace, and full bath with double sinks, bath and shower all decorated with hand painted tiles from Vietri.

Also on this floor are two double bedrooms, one with two twin beds and one with a queen size bed. These two bedrooms share a full bath.

The top floor is reached by a staircase from the 2nd level. Here two twin beds and book lined walls make this a very comfortable, and private, bedroom. This room shares the bath on the 2nd floor.

The second master suite is reached from it’s own separate entrance and is located at the lowest level of the house. A linen draped canopy bed makes this one of the most romantic rooms in the house. There is a sitting area, t.v., phone and full bath.
